Our Weekend: 1st Baseball Game!

We started off the weekend by going to an Radford University baseball game sponsored by the college I work in.  It was Colin's first baseball game and we weren't sure how it would go.  My dad's favorite sport is probably baseball so he wanted to be there for this first!  There was a tailgate prior to the game.  One of our professor's has triplet girls a year old than Colin and they were sitting behind us so Colin had to get down and walk over to their wagon :)  Sadly I didn't get any pictures of this!

excuse the goofy face...this is the only picture I got of myself and Colin!

Can you tell he loved it!?!  he clapped and cheered and had the biggest smile!  Sadly, by the end of the second inning he was getting restless so we left.  Plus it was getting cold.  I didn't think about the stadium being right by the river so it got cool fairly quickly.  They hit a foul ball behind us one time and Justin took off to get the ball so we have a cool souvenir from Colin's first game.  A couple of the guys on the team have been my advisees from day one and I might have them sign it just because!
When we got home that night we had a new toy to play with.  I ordered the Farmer's Market color sorting set by Learning Resources from Amazon so we checked it out before bed.

On Saturday, Justin & I both worked although mine was just a couple of hours.  I also helped Heather get some things done for Leora's first birthday.  That night Colin was still going full force at 9....Justin had to go to work on Sunday so he went to bed.

We played, read books, watched Mickey Mouse and at 10 I took this picture:

Shortly after he was asleep...not sure why we had such a late night but he wasn't interested in sleep!  Thankfully he wasn't fussy either!

Sunday, we went to church and then went back to my parents to celebrate my grandma's 88th birthday!  Colin was asleep so this was the only picture we ended up with.

She is such an amazing lady.  I am so thankful for her and her influence on my life.

Next weekend I am looking forward to a day with Justin finally...this was our last full weekend of him working for a month!  Yay!

Have a great week!

Show & Tell Tuesdays: What's In a Name

As soon as Andrea (from one of my favorite blogs!) posted that she was going to do Show & Tell Tuesdays, I wanted to participate.  I'm just now jumping in the game!  This topic was a fun one so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to start!

I'll start with my name!  My parents were married 17 years before they had their one and only child.  From the time my mom was in high school, she wanted to name her daughter Melissa Dawn.  During those 17 years the name was taken by a friend of hers and also by my dad's brother so when I came along she had to find a new name.  Her favorite book and movie is Gone With the Wind so she chose Melanie and stayed with the middle name....Melanie Dawn!

My namesake!

When Justin & I started dating I found it amusing that his last name was Butler....if you've seen the movie you know one of the main male characters was Rhett Butler.  Also, had I been a boy, my mom wanted to name me Ashley Aaron...after another male lead in the movie!

When we decided to start our family, we also decided that we were going to keep the name a secret until he or she was born.  I think it drove a lot of people crazy that we did this but we enjoyed it and plan to do it again if we decide to have any other kids down the road (a long while down the road!).  We had our girls name picked before we were even married and we are still in love with it so it's staying in our vault :)

I had a suspicion the entire time I was pregnant that it was a boy.  For months we said we were naming him Justin Corrigan Butler Jr and we were going to call him JJ.  Around the time we found out it was a boy we decided to choose another name instead.  Justin wanted to be sure the middle name was Corrigan so our little man would be the fifth generation with that middle name.  I was fine with that because I really like it.  As we were trying to figure out another name, one that I had thrown out months before became my favorite.  When the 49ers were in the Super Bowl, at the very end of the game I asked if we could name our first born son Colin if they won.  Well, they lost and that was the end of the conversation on that until we were trying to figure out names.  I kept coming back to Colin Corrigan and it finally stuck.  Justin wanted to be sure it was a name we loved and not just us naming him after our team's Quarterback (Colin Kaepernick).  Justin's dad's family is from Ireland so the fact that the name was Irish made it even more appealing.  I can't imagine Colin being anything but Colin now!

A big thanks to this guy for inspiring us and sharing his name...haha!

We didn't even tell our families his name until they walked in the room and saw him wearing the hat I ordered on Etsy!

And just for fun...my sweet Colin wearing his Kaepernick jersey!

Since I am linking up to Andrea/Momfessionals for this one, I want to say thanks for stopping by if you are new!  This blog is very much a work in progress so please excuse things not being totally finished...I hope you will come back again :)

Our Weekend

I didn't want this weekend to end!  The weather on Saturday was absolutely gorgeous...shorts, tshirt and flip flop kind of weather!

Justin had to work on Saturday so when I talked to Mom that morning she told us to come on down and we'd take Colin to my grandma's while Dad mowed there.  Colin loves his Nanny and she didn't know he was coming so it was a fun surprise.  He played in the driveway with his mower and walker and "chased" her around the garage.

I had ordered a grill from Amazon last week and it was delivered Saturday so I put it together for Colin when we got back to my parents...he loves it!  Now to find more play food or get myself motivated to start making felt food for him!

this shows how small the grill is...or how big the cat is...I'm not sure which!

After his afternoon nap, we went to the elementary school to see what he thought of the playground.

After a lot of playing in the mulch he was ready to go - he took Granddaddy by the hand and off they went.  Over the weekend he has started saying "Papa" so I guess I need to start using that too!

then he decided Nana needed to hold his hand too...

these pictures are so sweet....Colin loves Papa and Nana so much!

Sunday was a rainy day.  We went to church, had lunch, made more pumpkin muffins and napped.  Before Daddy got home, I was in the kitchen and Colin came down the hall pushing his car.  I stopped what I was doing and just enjoyed the moment.  He discovered he can climb in and out of the car so that's just what he did...for a good ten minutes.  I called Papa to ask if there's a way to make "brakes" so the car doesn't move on him.  If we figure it out, I'll post details!

I can see his little imagination developing and I am so excited! I see hours upon hours of pretending in our future :)

I hope every has a great week!

Silly Colin

Colin's personality is starting to show more and more.  On Easter Sunday I got some pictures that show the silly faces he makes when he is in his high chair.  I credit my dad for teaching him these...not sure if I should say thanks or not ;)

Serious...

...cheesin'...

...see my tongue...

...here it is again...

...sweet boy!

I also got a few random play pictures on the Saturday before Easter.  My parents bought him this shopping cart at a flea market in TN and I put his Mickey in it as his baby and then the puppy got added.

apparently something was wrong with the wheels...he's always "fixing" wheels on his stuff!

I also got a few pictures of him trying to pull out Mom's pots & pans!

I just wanted to share a glimpse into this little personality emerging!
I hope you all have a great weekend! I'm ready to spend it with this little guy and hopefully get more pictures of his cuteness!
