Our Weekend: Mother's Day Edition

Well, my "Our Weekend" post was a fail last week as was any other posts...sorry!  Graduation stuff consumed my life at work and when I got home I was trying to clean house for this weekend!

Friday

Friday night, I got the crazy idea to put the water table together for Colin.  We bought it on clearance last fall but left it in the box.  I wanted to have it out Sunday so I made the dumb decision to attempt that at 7:00....very close to bedtime.  Colin was so ready for a bath and bed by the end of it.  After Colin went to bed Justin & I watched the movie Fireproof after we put Colin to bed...I highly recommend it if you haven't already seen it (it's several years old now).  We are now starting the book "The Love Dare" to follow up to the movie.

Saturday

Saturday morning I was up early to get ready for graduation.  Justin dropped me off because parking is impossible and on our way we stopped at a yard sale and found a play kitchen with a box full of food!  I was so excited.  We got a great deal on it and when the lady agreed to the price she said "the Lord is good to us so go ahead and take it for that"  As I cleaned it after graduation I just kept thinking how blessed I was!  For now we are leaving it at my parents because he will get to play with it a lot more.  I'm going to continue looking at yard sales this summer for one for our house also. We moved his grill to our house in the meantime.

The girly stuff is going to our niece, Carmen, next weekend...and a tea party is in order!

While I worked graduation, Justin and Colin had an art project that I didn't know about.  They made this for me as my Mother's Day gift!

That evening we went to Mary's graduation party.  She was a graduate assistant in our office in the fall semester and finished her master's this semester.  They have 2 dogs and Colin fell in love.  Mary's mom got some really good pictures that I need to get of him with the dogs.  He's pretty hesitant about going to anyone other than us and my parents....if it meant he could see the dogs he didn't care.  Hillary took him out to see them while I finished eating and he was so content.  Maybe she's turned a corner with him and we'll have a babysitter :)

I was EXHAUSTED when we got home....but it was such a good day and the weather was gorgeous.

Sunday
I got up and put lunch in the crock pot.  I was using this recipe but with chicken so Colin could eat it. I also made cole slaw with no recipe....I was scared because I've never done that before.  It turned out good though!  I used a bag of cole slaw mix along with a spiralized zucchini and yellow squash.  I will be making that again!

We went to my parents for breakfast before church.  I had gotten the ingredients together for pancakes and Dad made them....while Colin cooked in his pajamas.  He didn't pay much attention to the kitchen the day before but immediately went to it on Sunday morning!

After church we headed back to the house to get everything ready.  Colin went with Nana and Papaw to make that easier for us.  My parents, grandma and Justin's mom came over for lunch.  The weather was gorgeous again so we set it all up on the carport to eat.  Before we ate Colin soaked himself with the water table....I think he loved it!

After lunch and a failed attempt at a nap we got a few pictures...

and then Colin was getting clingy so a 3 generation picture was in order...Mommy, Colin & Nana

We had a great day.  I am so thankful for the moms in my life and that I am a mom myself. Growing up I would change my mind about what I wanted to be constantly but one thing was consistent....I have always wanted to be a mom.  Colin brings so much joy to my life now and I am blessed beyond measure to have him in my life.

I also want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mom!  She has been my rock my entire life.  I always knew I could go to her with anything.  We have always been close and I was that strange teenager that preferred to be with my family.  I've not made her life easy, I know but she has already made sure I knew how much I meant to her and dad...and that I was their gift from God.  Some kids know their parents want them out when they hit 18 or 20 or whatever....to this day, I know their house is my house and if I ever need to go back I can.  When I became a mom we became even closer.  I don't know what I would do without her.  She supports me and loves me unconditionally.  She works hard to help make my life a little easier.  I couldn't ask for someone better to keep Colin....she cares for him just like I would, knows the ins and outs of his allergies, lotion regimens, medicines.  Growing up she worked hard to instill a love of reading in my life and she is doing the same with Colin...but first and foremost, a love of the Lord.  Words can't say how thankful I am for my mom.  I love you!!!!!

This week is Food Allergy Awareness week so I plan to do some posts about our journey with this finally!

Happy Monday!!
